Your natal Moon phase: a practical way to read it

The phase is a relationship
Your natal Moon phase comes from the angular distance between the Sun and Moon at birth. A conjunction produces a New Moon phase, an opposition a Full Moon phase, and the degrees between them form waxing and waning stages. It describes the Sun and Moon as a pair rather than interpreting either sign alone.
Astronomically, waxing means the visible illuminated portion was increasing; waning means it was decreasing. The astrology attached to those phases is a symbolic tradition, not a scientific personality test.
Eight broad phase families
New Moon and crescent phases are often associated with emergence, instinct and building momentum. First quarter and gibbous phases are linked with action, adjustment and refinement on the way toward fullness. Full Moon symbolism emphasises visibility and awareness through contrast.
Disseminating, last quarter and balsamic phases are commonly read through sharing, re-evaluation and release. These broad descriptions gain nuance from the Sun and Moon signs, houses and aspects.
Use phase as a rhythm question
Instead of declaring a fixed life purpose from the phase, notice your preferred rhythm. Do you understand an experience while it unfolds, after you discuss it, or later in solitude? Do you begin easily and refine later, or wait until an idea has a clear shape?
A natal Moon phase can provide a compact lens for the relationship between conscious direction and instinctive response. It becomes most helpful when it names a rhythm you can work with, not a role you must perform.
