One house for each year of life
Annual profections are a traditional timing technique that advances one house per year from birth. The first house is active from birth to the first birthday, the second from age one to two, and so on. The cycle repeats every twelve years, making ages twelve, twenty-four and thirty-six first-house years.
Most practitioners use whole sign houses for this method. Your profection changes on your birthday, not on 1 January.
Find the lord of the year
The planet ruling the sign of the activated house becomes the year's time lord. Its natal condition, house and aspects provide context; its transits and transits to it may receive extra attention during the year.
For example, a seventh-house profection highlights partnership themes broadly, while the ruler shows how that house connects with the rest of the chart. It does not guarantee marriage, separation or any single event.
Focus, then add context
Profections narrow attention rather than replacing transits, returns or real circumstances. Start with the activated house and ruler before adding layers, or the method becomes another way to make every symbol equally urgent.
Use the year to form practical questions about that life area. Timing techniques are interpretive traditions, not evidence that an event must happen, and major decisions still require current facts and appropriate advice.
