How astrologers compare two birth charts, what to look for first and why no aspect can declare a relationship destined or impossible.

Synastry compares two complete charts
Synastry places one person's planets around another person's chart and measures the aspects between them. It asks how two established patterns meet. Sun signs can contribute, but the Moon, Mercury, Venus, Mars, Saturn, angles and house overlays add far more specificity.
Accurate birth times matter for angles and houses. Without them, compare planetary contacts but keep ascendant and overlay claims tentative. Good technique makes uncertainty visible rather than filling it with certainty.
Start with how the relationship functions
Moon contacts may describe emotional recognition; Mercury aspects, conversational rhythm; Venus and Mars, attraction and preference; Saturn, continuity, duty or inhibition. Look for mutual themes and repeated connections instead of ranking one dramatic aspect above the rest.
Traditionally easy aspects can support rapport, but too much ease may leave differences unspoken. Squares and oppositions can create friction, yet they can also bring energy and awareness when both people have the capacity to negotiate. Context changes expression.
Compatibility is lived, not awarded
Synastry cannot measure honesty, safety, shared values, communication skills or willingness to repair. Those qualities are demonstrated through behaviour. A powerful contact is not permission to ignore boundaries, and a difficult contact is not proof that care is impossible.
Use the comparison to ask better questions: Where do we misunderstand each other? What feels naturally supported? Which differences need explicit agreements? The goal is not a cosmic score but a clearer conversation between two people with agency.
